Nuclear Medicine Diagnostics
What Is Nuclear Medicine?
- Nuclear medicine leverages radioactive tracers to obtain diagnostic information
- Radioactive tracers find the path of various biochemical molecules in our body and obtain functional information about their workings (i.e., physiology)
How Nuclear Medicine Works?
Nuclear medicine uses a radioactive material called a radiopharmaceutical or radiotracer. This material is injected into the bloodstream, swallowed or inhaled. It accumulates in the area of the body under examination, where it releases a small amount of energy as gamma rays.
